Joseph W. Smith court transcript. 1991.

The Joseph W. Smith court transcript is the account of the trial of Joseph W. Smith vs. Buddy Youngreen. The trial in 1991 is a result of a discrepancy in a story regarding Samuel S. Smith, the son of Joseph F. Smith. Samuel S. Smith owned many valuable letters of his father to his wife, Mary Taylor Swartz Smith. Buddy Youngreen claimed that Samuel S. Smith promised to give the gift to Mr. Youngreen in a trust in order for preservation of the documents to be donated to BYU or Church Archives. Joseph W. Smith claimed that this was not what in fact happened and that Mr. Youngreen had been given the letters within the terms that they were to be given back to the original family members. The court endeavors to solve ownership of the letters.
